Two ships, one season

The Acushnet sailed from Fairhaven in January 1841, the Charles W. Morgan from New Bedford in September. Both worked the equatorial sperm grounds for two years and both ended up on the Kodiak right whale ground in the summer of 1844 — the Acushnet for the second time. Read together, the two logs show how much of a voyage was shared fleet practice and how much was one captain's luck.
